Tickets for TEDxSantaCruz on sale now

Tickets are now on sale for TEDxSantaCruz, a daylong conference being held on June 11, 2011 at the Cabrillo College Music Recital Hall.

Santa Cruz, California (May 10, 2011) – Tickets are now available for TEDxSantaCruz, an independently organized TED event, set for June 11, 2011 at the Cabrillo College Music Recital Hall.

TEDxSantaCruz will feature extraordinary speakers who will share their passionate views on a variety of subjects addressing the theme: “Engage!”

“The program we have planned includes creative thinkers and innovators that will challenge the audience to see Santa Cruz, and ourselves, in a new way,” said Doug Abrams, bestselling author and co-organizer of TEDxSantaCruz. “This event is going to bring the glamour of the world-famous TED Conference to Santa Cruz and let us share amazing Santa Cruz thought leaders with the world.”

A varied program is planned, ranging from programs about improving local life to theories of the universe. A complete list of speakers and subjects will be announced later this month.

“We’ve had a great response from the community,” said David Warren, co-organizer of TEDxSantaCruz. “We had more than 100 people apply to speak at the event and have put together a great team of presenters.”

Tickets are $75 and the price includes the full-day conference, lunch, and afternoon refreshments. Seating is limited and one-third of the tickets have already been sold. Those interested in attending the event can purchase tickets at http://scff.ticketleap.com/tedxsantacruz/.

“One of the best things about TEDx is that the audience will be filled with people as extraordinary as those on the stage,” Abrams said. “You will meet our community’s thought-leaders, movers, and shakers and learn their ideas and share yours. TEDx is about finding people you may not know about, connecting with them, and getting inspired by new ideas and innovations.”

The event will also be streamed over the Internet and posted on the TEDx YouTube channel after the event.

TEDxSantaCruz is run totally by volunteers who have generously given their time to create TEDxSantaCruz and is supported by generous donors in the community. If you would like to get involved with this dynamic group of people, please contact dwarren@tedxsantacruz.org.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize local, independent TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
